BMO acquisition in U.S. Midwest 'doing better' |
Grant Robertson — BANKING REPORTER: The U.S banking market has been in the doldrums for the past few years, but in certain pockets of the country there are signs of optimism. Tim Massey, regional president at Marshall & Ilsley Corp., the Midwestern United States bank purchased by Bank of Montreal (BMO-T58.43-0.37-0.63%) last year, said Wednesday there are hints of a consumer recovery taking hold in the market, though business borrowing remains slow. Phil Mickelson has obtained a court order against a Quebec-based internet service provider, demanding that the company hand over personal information about a subscriber who posted a series of “vicious” statements online. Mickelson, whose nickname “Lefty” refers to his left-handed golf swing, was voted into the World Golf Hall of Fame last fall. He’s won four major titles during his career and dozens of PGA events. ||||||||
Canadian Facebook fans are unlikely to share in the excitement of the social media giant's hotly anticipated initial public offering. That's because only the biggest Canadian players have accounts with the social media company's underwriters, who are responsible for doling out shares to investors. Investment advisers usually receive fewer shares than they want of a stock that's in high demand. They then distribute whatever shares they get among their clients. By the time Facebook shares actually hit stock exchanges, the price is expected to at least have doubled from the initial asking price. Facebook hopes to raise about $5 billion US in its IPO when the company sells a small piece of its business to the public. The offering is expected later this year. Read More>>> |
