Shortly after the Hall of Fame win, someone using the online name Fogroller began posting comments on Yahoo! Sports suggesting the golfer didn’t deserve the title, Cohen said. He said Mickelson didn’t worry about the comments at first, “But then they got personal.” “[They] started talking about his illegitimate kid in Columbus, Ohio, which doesn’t exist, [and] started talking about his wife sleeping with Michael Jordan, [which] never happened. It was vicious,” Cohen said. Mickelson filed a complaint with the Superior Court of California, which compelled Yahoo! Inc. to hand over information about the poster’s identity, including the individual’s name and Internet service provider. Now he wants Vidéotron to confirm that person’s identity and provide more detailed information, including a home address and telephone number. Vidéotron initially said it wouldn’t do so without the court order, according to the documents. A Québec Superior Court judge granted the order on Monday. Neither Vidéotron nor its parent company Québecor could be reached for immediate comment. Cohen said he doesn’t believe the poster has continued to write about the golfer since he began the legal action, but he said Mickelson isn’t willing to ignore what happened. “You can’t ... slam my client without there being consequences,” Cohen said. |
